More Torfaen groups supported with the Community Winter Support Fund

Another £7,500 awarded from the Community Winter Support Fund

On the most romantic day of the year, Torfaen Voluntary Alliance knows how to share the love across the borough with more awards of their Community Winter Support Fund, with support from Welsh Government and Third Sector Support Wales.

The purpose of this grant is to help and support those under pressure during the winter period. The fund can be accessed by third sector and not for profit organisations/groups to support any age group and we welcome your ideas on how to do so.

The funding panel has recently met and has decided on the following:

Project Description

Amount

Garnsychan Partnership

Setting up a Fuel bank scheme allowing them to give even more immediate help through their wellbeing hub

£2,500

Sharon Gospel Church

They will make one-off grants of £30 on client gas/electric accounts, either by using an app if they have a smart meter, or my adding credit to a prepayment key.

£2,500

Bethlehem Chapel

They will make one-off grants of £30 on client gas/electric accounts, either by using an app if they have a smart meter, or my adding credit to a prepayment key.

£2,500

Garnsychan Partnership were awarded £2,500.

They want to set up a Fuel bank scheme allowing them to give even more immediate help through their wellbeing hub. With fuel prices anticipated to rise in April, those already living on the poverty line are going to be forced even more to have to choose between heating and eating.

A spokesperson from Garnsychan Partnership said, “It is not just topping their gas and electric, it is giving them their dignity back; knowing they can return to a warm home and a hot meal.”

The Community Winter Support Fund is available till the end of March 2022, and all local organisations are welcome to submit applications for any projects that will support with winter pressures.
