Co-op Local Community Fund Opens
The Co-op Local Community Fund is now accepting applications for projects which benefit local communities around Co-op food stores and funeral homes across the UK or the Isle of Man.
Small, locally based voluntary and community groups including registered charities, small charities registered with the HMRC for tax, CASCs, churches that are ‘excepted’ charities, scout and guide groups can apply for grants to support projects which benefit the local communities around Co-op food stores and funeral homes. No minimum or maximum amount of funding is specified but in the past applicants have received grants of up to £2,500.
To be eligible, the main activities of a project must:
- Take place in the UK or Isle of Man.
- Not finish before October 2017.
- Meet the Co-operatives values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. (In the tradition of their founders, Co-operative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others.)
Eligible projects will also make the best use of the funding available to create the greatest possible benefit for their community.
The Co-op anticipates funding three projects in each of around 1,500 local communities across the UK and Isle of Man.
Previous grants have been used to purchase vehicles and renovate a library’s young adult section to create a safe, vibrant space where isolated and disadvantaged young people can get together to study and learn new skills.
The deadline for applications is 16 December 2016.
