Able Radio – Volunteers Needed

Based in Upper Cwmbran, Able is a unique project for adults with autism and learning disabilities. Creativity underpins all activities in their large facility which includes radio studios and designated activity zones. Staff support service users in developing their skills and confidence. Opportunities exist for focussed volunteers to get involved in all aspects of operations.

Volunteering at Able offers a genuine chance to improve the lives of people by providing guidance and support in their chosen activity. There are currently three areas offering a volunteering opportunity. This includes art/crafts, sports and media. You will already have some experience in one of these fields and prepared to share your skills. With a clean criminal record, you will have a sense of fun but sensitive to the needs of others. Able will provide any training and support as part of volunteering.

Arts and crafts activities occur Monday to Friday from 10:30 to 15:00 with an hour for lunch. Participants are adults with learning and other disabilities. Volunteers should have an enthusiasm for arts and crafts, and take pleasure in sharing this with others. Experience of working with disabled people would be a benefit, but full support and training will be offered.

Able offers a range of sports based activities daily. Sessions last an hour and cover a range of accessible sports. All participants are adults with learning and other disabilities.  Volunteers will have an opportunity to shape the sports initiative and we welcome adults who already have  experience within this type of activity.

Again, working with a client group this includes learning disabled people, this time focussing on media. Specific skills and enthusiasm in radio production, Video film making and photography. Enthusiasm and aptitude is key, combined with an understanding of how working with media, can be used to develop many soft and life skills.

Volunteers will be required to have a crb check, demonstrate knowledge of sports based activity and be passionate about helping people living with impairments. You will be required to volunteer for approx.. one hour on one or more week days, preferably early afternoon. Full training  and induction will be provided by Able.
